DESCRIPTION: Mineral oil

APPLICATION: Use as an adjuvant for the immunization of antigen in experimental animals. This incomplete Freund’s adjuvant (IFA) is suitable for collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in rats. This IFA can also be used for a booster injection of type II collagen to increase the incidence of CIA in mice.

Note: IFA instead of complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA) should be used to emulsify type II collagen for immunizing rats, since rats are susceptible to adjuvant induced arthritis. For inducing arthritis in rats more efficiently, muramyl dipeptide (MDP) can be added to IFA.

QUANTITY: 5 mL

FORM: Solution

EMULSION: Emulsify with an equal volume of collagen using an electric homogenizer. Syringe-syringe method is not recommended to make collagen-IFA emulsion for inducing arthritis, but can be used just for obtaining anti-sera.

STORAGE TEMPERATURE: 4°C in the dark
